When are FR Coveralls Used?

FR coveralls are used by workers that work in and around hazardous jobsites. This includes sites where employees are working with open flames, electricity and electrical currents, or hazardous materials.

Electrical Industry Standards

NFPA 70E standards require electrical workers to wear FR clothing suited to their occupation. An HRC rating scale is employed to rate these articles of clothing. HRC ratings are correlated to the required level of protection for electrical workers in relation to the danger level of the job or jobsite. HRC stands for Hazard Risk Category and utilizes a number scale ranging from 1 to 4. An HRC 1 represents the lowest danger risk, while HRC 4, the highest. All of our FR coveralls feature a listed HRC level to establish their appropriateness for a particular jobsite. HRC levels are determined by the minimum amount of calories per square centimeter (ATPV or Cal/cm2) a treated garment must pass through to create a 50% probability of a 2nd or 3rd degree burn occurring. Safety Supply America sells flame resistant coveralls for many situations, ranging from the least hazardous HRC 1 jobsite to the most hazardous HRC 4 jobsites.

Oil and Gas Industry Standards

Some of the flame resistant coveralls sold by Safety Supply America comply with the new memorandum issued by OSHA (OSHA 1910). This memorandum stipulates flame resistant clothing must be worn by employees drilling for oil and gas, or by those performing maintenance on drilling equipment. The guidelines are delineated by the NFPA 2112 standard. This standard sets forth a minimum performance and certification requirement for the flame resistant clothing used in the oil and gas industry. Workers must wear FR clothing that meets the NFPA 2112 standard whenever working in areas in which flammable gases, vapors, and combustible dusts could be present. To learn which FR coveralls comply with the oil and gas industry standards, please contact Safety Supply America.
